Rhinoplasty (Nose Jobs)

by leesa9496 on January 5, 2011

There are many people out there that are not happy with one specific body part or another. It seems like most people would choose their nose as one of the body parts that they are the most dissatisfied with. Maybe it was because of an injury from the past or maybe they just don’t like the shape or the size. The most likely reason is because it is on your face and that is what people notice the most (or at least they should). If you are looking into getting some work done on your nose then that is referred to as Rhinoplasty (nose job). One of the first things that you need to think about this choice is what type of specific changes you would like done before you go racing into your local surgeons office.

If you are thinking of altering the shape of your nose due to the fact that it was injured in the past or maybe you just don’t like the size or shape that you were born with, then Rhinoplasty is the surgery that you would definitely want to look into. You need to first think about all the specific changes that you would like to make before you go racing into a surgeons office.

Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures. Rhinoplasty can increase or decrease the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or bridge, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also correct a birth defect or an injury, or help relive some breathing problems.

One of the most useful things you can do to help yourself decide this is to learn a little bit about all the different types of Rhinoplasty surgery that are available to you. But before you do that, it is important to gain a realistic expectation as to the type of alterations that could be made to your nose.

The different types of Rhinoplasty are:

Tip Rhinoplasty: Involves the reshaping and altering of the nose’s tip

Bridge Rhinoplasty
: Is where the bridge of your nose is altered in size and/or shape.

Hump Rhinoplasty: Can reduce the size of the hump, reshape it or change its overall structure.

Cartilage and Nostrils in Rhinoplasty: In many cases the cartilage is reshaped, altered or even removed depending on the desired results. Nostrils can be re-sized during Rhinoplasty Surgery to achieve a more favorable shape.

Angle & Twist: If your nose inhabits a strange angle, twist, or overall crookedness.

Now that you have the tools to begin to understand what Rhinoplasty is and all of the different types of procedures that exist, you are on your way to really deciding if this is something that you want to do. Just always keep in mind that this is surgery and there are some permanent risks involved. Please make sure to always consult your local physician with any specific medical questions. This articles purpose is to help you have a better understanding of different types of procedures and to help you engage in healthy conversations with your doctor to help you make the best choice for you.
